Round Table Conversations

“Round Table Conversations,” or R.T.C,  is the interviewing section of K1ngEljay.com. Basically put, when I interview people, it will be labeled as this. There’s another dimension to this idea, but that will be revealed a little later. I don’t plan on doing this weekly, but as the opportunity arises, I plan to do more and more…

Here, all of my interviews with artists I’ve encountered will be posted here. Check below for the list of people along with an excerpt/quote from the interview. The most recent interviews will be towards the top.

“One thing led to another, and I kind of quit rap for a while because I didn’t think there was any room for me in the game. I didn’t know this sh**. I didn’t think that my image would be accepted.”

“The more I started writing and opening myself up to people, the more I started to realize I wasn’t really alone. My stories became inspiration for a lot of people, or at least for the people who contacted me and let me know that my music has affected them in such-and-such way. I think people gravitated towards the honesty and me being bluntly honest and still keeping my ability to rhyme.”

“You know man it might sound crazy but I really did know in my spirit these things would happen one day. That’s the only reason I allowed myself to get a lil’ down when things weren’t  going the way I thought they should… because I was so sure in my spirit it was meant to be, that I couldn’t understand why they hadn’t happened yet. Everyday I’m thankful because God gave me the blessing of seeing what I envisioned come to life.”

” I really do feel that the music industry needs to be changed.  If you give away your music for free (and it’s good), people will be more than willing to buy a t-shirt or pay the $20 to see you play a live show.  The internet is changing the way we do everything, artists should make their money touring and from fans who actually love their music.”

“I started so young, that I never thought about it as a career. It was something I always saw myself doing, but it was just fun back then. I guess through my eyes as a child, I couldn’t foresee how influential it would be in my life.”

- Excerpt from “An Interview With…The Incomparable Shakespeare” (9/3/10)

“Checkmate” is not a diss. 75% of the song was already written. When ACCC dropped initially, I felt left out. So I decided to just prove it, similar to Lupe [Fiasco] when he felt left out of the MTV list.”

- Excerpt from “An Interview With…Mickey Factz” (8/20/10)

“It wasn’t initially like “Let’s do it to stir things up and shock the world.” We were just going off the strength of good vibes (no pun).” – Intalek

- Excerpt from “An Interview With.. Ritchcraft and Intalek” (8/11/10)

“Nas was a huge inspiration due to his lyrical content and the way he puts his rhymes together. My first rap name was Knowledge and that was adopted to be like a protege’ of Nas. After a couple months I felt corny, though.”

- Excerpt from “An Interview With… J. Nolan” – (8/5/10)

“…Around 2004, [my mother] started giving me Kanye songs and eventually “College Dropout” to listen to. I’ve been a Ye fan ever since. I was young like 11, 12, so it feels like I’ve grown up listening to him.

- Excerpt from An Interview With… PropaYne” – (7/16/10)
