J.O.K.E. (Journal of K1ng Eljay) – “An Illuminating Theory…”
Every single day in every single way, I become more and more annoyed with the Jay-Z situation. Because of his questionable images in his recent videos, the hip-hop star has become the center of attention for allegedly being a freemason and/or part of the Illuminati…
For the record, the Illuminati were (are?) a secret organization or groups that are supposedly responsible for a lot of the behind-the-scene things that have happened in huge events. It is supposedly dead, being disbanded in the late 1800s, but at the time in the 1700s, it was thought of as not being true, so take that for what you want…
Anyway, Jay-Z is at the forefront of this whole situation again. If you remember, this isn’t the first time he’s been in this negative light. Ever since he took up the name of the “god MC” aka “Hova” aka any other name he has that infringes on Christianity, this has been somewhat of a low cloud that has hung over him. But like I said, this is really nothing new to me.
For the record again, my opinion on THAT situation is that it’s highly possible he could be. Concerning the evidence brought against him, the more into religion you are, the more it’ll make sense to see how people can make that connection. Even his answer recently about his “Belief” in God on Angie Martinez’ radio show can kind of show that:
- “I think it’s one God. I think it’s all the same God, and I don’t believe in Hell. But as far as God, of course I believe in God. Am I a part of some sect or cult? That sounds stupid to me. It’s like ignorant to even say, and umm… I guess that’ll be the last time I address that. It’s ignorant to me…
- · “I can’t even get in a golf club in Palm Springs. I’m from Marcy Projects. Just think about that? People that control the world?
- · “I think there are cliques of friends that control things. I don’t if there is a devil worshipping sect. That’s a little Tom Hanks. I believe there are cliques of people that control the world…but that’s just natural process. I’m sure Obama has his people and everything is good but as far as how far people are taking it…
- “I’m an entertainer at the end of the day. Maybe I’ll push your buttons but you know…”
Like I said, the more you know about God and different religions, then the more disturbing those quotes are (especially since he never directly answered the question, but that’s not my point). Honestly, we probably won’t really ever know for sure. The last time I checked, if you’re in those types of groups, they deny it to the death. So Jay will never come out and say…
“Illuminati son! Scream at me!!!”
He’s smarter than that. Let’s be realistic.
But this J.O.K.E. is NOT about Jay-Z.
This is more about the people’s reaction to OLD news suddenly becoming new again as if we haven’t already been down this road before. The response to this is similar to the response I had concerning the Kanye West/Taylor Swift situation, when he yanked the mike from her because she was getting too emotional and all of the fallout happened.
Good for him.
However, as bad/good as that was (That was my second favorite moment of 2009), his core audience still followed his music, because his talent could cover for it.
If you’re a music fan, and Jay-Z’s music stays consistently dope like it’s been lately, then I’d have a hard time believing that this would make you stop listening to his music. To be even more specific, you can’t exactly tell me that the situation Jay is accused of is worse than the normal topics of freestyles and raps that are placed on the radio today.
Examples? Sure, I got some.
Waka Flocka Flames’ “O Let’s Do It” (sounds more like “O-lea-dewwey”..yay for Ebonics!) depicts in the beginning of the song him being broke and deciding to rob someone else just to get his money up. Several rappers have mentioned the Illuminati in their lyrics. Eminem… just listen to the first four tracks of Relapse to prove that point (it ranges from detailed homicide to parental drug abuse to incest, in that order). And to top it off…Biggie rapped about raping dude’s kids and throwing them over a bridge.
So in perspective to all of the other CRAP we, as consumers of the product, let fly, I’d have to say I’m surprised that NOW all of a sudden this is a problem.
Should it be a problem? YES. To me, yeah it should because I’m a Christian (obvious bias, I’m aware) and- like I’ve said earlier – the more into religion you are, the more disturbing this topic becomes. But there are other elements in music that’s just as disturbing and we as fans think nothing of it. That should change, and not just because of this situation. If we keep buying garbage, then people are going to keep making garbage…
And then there’s the fact that some people don’t care about an entertainer’s personal life. They just want the music. This could be one of those cases in a nutshell, so this situation might not even affect some people, period.
All things considered however…it’s still possible that we could be overreacting a little bit.
Example? Sure, I got one.
Think about the image in the “On To the Next One” video where it shows a Jesus chain with two bullets lying on the side of it. Yes, the image that seems to have re-sparked this whole issue. Blasphemous, right?
Maybe not. Did you know that Jay-Z shot his brother when he was 12 for trying to steal his jewelry? Now think about the jewelry piece and the bullets again… That bit of information puts that whole debate in a different perspective…But then you would think that he would stay away from something so controversial…
Look, regardless what your opinion is on the matter, form the opinion for yourself. Don’t just jump on the bandwagon and say something because everyone else is saying it. Be intelligent, and form your own conclusion. I’m pretty sure we’ll never find out the truth anyway.
Later.
