First off...Who let him on stage? We call it stage security for a REASON. They should be at fault too.
Yeah… I’ve been thinking about this one for 12 hours….
I didn’t actually watch the VMAs (because after the BET Awards this year, I’d lost all hope) because I was actually enjoying my day. I had just gotten treated to Outback Steakhouse (TooWooma Pasta is DOPE) when Twitter suddenly exploded about the same topic.
- “OMG Kanye.”
- “Kanye, wtf?!”
- “Oh hell na…Kanye…”
Almost 2.78 seconds later, I suddenly field phone calls from 6 different people, and I piece together the story. Kanye Dee-Bo’ed (which means stole or robbed, for you not up on the “Friday” lingo) Taylor Swift’s spotlight to say Beyonce’s video was one of the best of all time, and then hands the microphone back to a bunch of boos and applause for Swift when she couldn’t continue with her speech. Almost 20 minutes later, an apology was up on his blog which seemed sincere…but drunkenly typed (in my opinion).
The next night, he asked for Jay Leno to give him a chance to apologize and one of the most heartfelt apologies that’s EVER come out of his mouth happened in that 3 minutes and 30 seconds. He was sorry. It was evident.
So let’s look at the issue as a whole for a second: It’s Kanye West. To be

I really do feel bad for her, having her moment ruined by Kanye. He needs to apologize to her about that, quickly.
completely honest, the only shock value for me (minor shock value, mind you) wasn’t the action performed (because he always does SOMETHING), but to who it was to. Taylor Swift is an obvious rap fan, evident after her now-classic “Thug Story” rendition with T-Pain. So that is horrible to be having one of the biggest moments of your life ruined by a bonehead move. Kanye West was DEAD WRONG for that.
Sure, he can have that opinion that Beyonce’s video was better. I’m pretty sure he wasn’t the only person with the opinion that “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” or whatever song it was she was nominated for…
…Perverts…
However, there is a time and place for everything, and that was not necessarily the time or the place. Period. Like I said, he was DEAD WRONG.
…BUT…You can’t honestly tell me that this one situation is going to make you suddenly give up listening to his music, and that he’s going to lose enough fans to hurt his pocket. There’s one reason I can honestly say this: previous history.
When he said on national TV that Bush didn’t care about black people (which was way worse than the Swift situation if you look at the TIMING of when he said it), most people still rocked with him because he’s honest and he makes great music.
When he had several temper-tantrums at a variety of award shows because he thought he was better (and that they sucked, in some occasions), most people still rocked with him because – although he can’t control his tongue at times – he’s honest and he makes great music.
When his mother died and he had to back out of a lot of his commitments, most people still rocked with him because he’s honest and he makes great music.
When he no longer had an excuse for backing out of music commitments, and he STILL DID it… most people still rocked with him because he’s honest and makes great music.

I'm going to call it now. Kanye gets Taylor Swift for the hook on a track for his new album.
Notice a trend here? The man cares about the music he makes, but he’s passionate about everything with the same level. Yes, it has benefits, but it has consequences as well, and I think he’s learning that now…and if you’re still around and listening to Kanye AFTER all of those incidents and BEFORE the Taylor Swift incident, I’m going to call shenanigans on you swearing off his music.
There’s something honest about the Mr. West complex and his ego that’s oddly refreshing for me to see. He brings attention to himself, but then he delivers on all fronts as well. So although he made a stupid mistake, people are making too big of a deal out of it now.
Because after all, he never said Taylor didn’t deserve the award. If you go and listen to what he says, he gives her props first before he says Beyonce’s video is one of the best of all time (which is a HUGE stretch…even by man standards). He never says anything bad about Taylor…which automatically makes this not as bad concerning his track record of ROASTING people to their face.
So if she forgives him, then that should be the end of it.
Let it go. There are things more important than this. Wait until Kanye does something more epic before you swear him off. I personally enjoy the Complex of Mr. West.
Later.

P.S: It’s obvious that he’s contrite about his actions. He issued an instant apology, and then pulled strings to get on national TV to issue another one which hit my heart when his mother was mentioned. I can honestly say this about Kanye: the guy is always honest, at all times, in all situations. It’s the first time you can honestly say a person “Says things that other people are scared to say.” However, there’s only so many times that your name and sheer talent can get you out of trouble. In all of the other instances this is what happened, but if he doesn’t learn to control his actions, it’s going to get to a point where talent won’t save him.
The most dangerous thing about making a mistake is that people have a habit to not forgive you for it. Ask Michael Vick about that. And…I think you might be able to ask Lil Mama about that now, thanks to her VMA 2009 stage-crash stunt…
