My Thoughts On The 2009 BET Awards…

Story time: When I was younger, I would’ve bet my life that the DC Sniper wasn’t black. Not to be racial or anything (and please don’t take it that way, that’s not the purpose of this blog), but I just KNEW in my heart that he wasn’t black. It would set us back as far as racial progress so much, I couldn’t fathom it. When they cornered the guy and the image registered to my eyes, I was thoroughly disappointed and disgusted to the point that I had to categorize the hurt into it’s own category: “Racial Loss”.

Definition: When an event or an effect of an event seemingly has no positive outcome for a pre-determined culture.

Or something like that…

Anyway, I was messed up after that. But I hadn’t had that feeling since, and it’s been a good thing. But in my lunacy, I decided to DVR the BET Awards while I went to the movies to see “The Taking of Pelham 123.”

Great movie, by the way.

During the movies I was tweeting about how I refuse to watch the awards, but in all honesty, the only reason I wanted to watch it was to RIP into BET about how they suck at life and that they’re amazing at exploiting blacks for payment. They do it better than anyone else in the world.

Real talk.

So the whole way home, I’m tweeting/twittering/twatting (?) about my anti-ignorance preference being the reason I haven’t watched BET in two years (seriously) and I’m getting EPIC tweets from people OD’ing on BET for screwing up the Awards show. And I’m like, “YAAAAAASSSSS!!! I’m about to go IN!”

I had no idea…

So I got home, and after eating my Wendys and my McTwist milkshake-Oreo thingy they sell (which is also great), I press play, only to realize that it’s still recording.

I was sure it was supposed to be over in three hours, so I decided to tune into the end.

And the first thing I see is Mary-Mary on stage with Drake.

Red flag.

Remember that Chappelle quote? "They should've NEVER GAVE YOU N----- MONEY!!!" That's how I feel right now...

Remember that Chappelle quote? "They should've NEVER GAVE YOU N----- MONEY!!!" That's how I feel right now...

I could dissect the full 27 seconds of horrible censoring, the complete moraless conviction BET showed by putting Mary-Mary next to a dude that wants to f**k every girl in the world, or the half-thrown out tribute they called themselves doing for Michael Jackson (granted, it was a three day preparation, but STILL)…or the rest of the show that I had to fast-forward through. But I’m not.

I’m just going to say one thing…

RACIAL LOSS.

Not good….

Later.
